Momme is a unit used in the silk industry to measure density and thickness, with higher numbers implying that it’s a premium product. As more silk is used in higher momme-ratings, it makes the product more durable and results in a deeper, more luxurious finish.

While the silkworms are boiled when the silk is extracted, they are eaten as a delicacy in the areas where Mulberry silk is produced, underlining the circularity of the material.
