According to the Canadian Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian men, with approximately 1 in 8 men expected to develop the disease in their lifetime. The need for emotional and informational support is crucial, and PROSTAID Calgary provides a welcoming environment where individuals can connect with others facing similar experiences.
“Receiving a prostate cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, not only for the individual but also for their loved ones,” said a PROSTAID Calgary spokesperson. “Our meetings provide an opportunity for men to gain insight from leading experts in the field, share experiences, and receive encouragement from a community that understands their journey.”
PROSTAID Calgary hosts general meetings once a month, open to all and without charge. In addition to these, the organisation runs specialised support groups, including the Warriors Group for those managing advanced prostate cancer and the Wives & Caregivers Group, which offers a safe space for loved ones to share their experiences and receive support.
Each session features prominent healthcare specialists, researchers, and cancer survivors who share the latest developments in treatment, screening advancements, and lifestyle strategies for living well after a diagnosis. Recent meeting topics have included new prostate cancer treatments, the role of testosterone therapy, and technological advances in cancer detection.
Alongside its meetings, PROSTAID Calgary provides additional resources through its website and monthly publication, The Digital Examiner, which reaches over 1,300 subscribers. These platforms offer up-to-date information on research, treatment advancements, and ongoing advocacy efforts.
